Brihadishvara Temple Thanjavur  Brihadeeswara temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva , also called Rajarajesvaram Kōvil is located in Thanjavur on the bank of Kaveri River . Bragatheeswarar Temple is a great tourist destination. Brihadeeswarar Temple is also widely known by name of 'Big Temple'. Brihadeeswarar temple completed its 1000 years in the year 2010. Among the many temples they built by Great Chola King  Rajaraja Cholan , the most important one is Thanjavur Brihadeeswara Temple .The temple, dedicated to Nandi, the Bull is a masterpiece of the captivating Chola architecture. The mount of Lord Shiva i.e. Nandi has been made from a single granite rock.Thanjavur Brihadeeswara Temple is an example for the Architectural Masterpiece of Chola Rule in South India, and is unique to have the tallest tower (216 ft) over the sanctum sanctorum unlike the other temples.

Brihadeeswara Temple, made over a 29 m square base, is surrounded by moat on two sides and Grand Anaicut river on the other side. Brihadeeswara Temple has a soaring vimana and a stunted gopuram. The inner sanctum and the gopuram were constructed over a period of 12 years. It was constructed from a single piece of granite weighing around 80 tonnes.

Brihadeeshwar Temple is one of the most beautiful architectural splendors of the country. It is erected amidst the great walls made perhaps in the sixteenth century. Inside the temple, there is a temple tower famous as Vimana among the devotees and tourists. This temple tower has an elevation of 66 meters. Vimana is one of the tallest temple towers on the earth. A rounded apex structure is there in the Brihadeeshwar Temple, which is believed to be constructed out of carving on a single stone only.

Among the many other temples built by the Chola Kings, the temple at Gangaikondacholapuram is also very famous.
