Sri Vaitha Maanitha Perumal Temple Nava Tirupathi Divya Desam

Nava Tirupathi is a set of 9 temples of Lord Vishnu located between Tirunelveli and Tiruchendur in the southern Indian state of Tamilnadu. Nava Tirupathi is part of the 108 Divya Desam temples revered by the Alvars, the 12 tamil poet saints who lived 2500 years ago. Located around the banks of the River Thamirabarani, the 9 temples of Nava Tirupathi are Thiruvaikundam, Thiruvaragunamangai, Thirupulinkudi, North & South temples of Thirutholaivillimangalam, Thirukkulanthai, Thiruperai, Thirukolur and Thirugurukoor.

The Garuda Sevai utsavam(festival) in the month of Vaikasi(May-Jun) witnesses 9 Garudasevai, a spectacular event in which festival image idols from the nava tirupathis shrines in the area are brought on Garuda vahana. An idol of Nammalvar is also brought here on an Anna Vahanam(palaquin) and his paasurams(verses) dedicated to each of these 9 temples are recited. The utsavar of Nammalvaris taken in a palanquin to each of the 9 temples, through the paddy fields in the area. The paasurams(poems) dedicated to each of the 9 Divyadesams are chanted in the respective shrines. This is the most important of the festivals in this area, and it draws thousands of visitors

Thirukkolour Sri Vaitha Maanitha Perumal Temple ( Mars ) Sri Vaithamanidhi Permual Temple is one of the Nava Tirupathi. nine Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Tiruchendur-Tirunelveli route, in the southern bank of Thamiraparani river.Thirukkolur is located at a distance of 4 km from Alwarthirunagari.This is the eighth temple of Nava thirupathi and is for mars (Sevvai). It is also called as Kuberasthalam. All these 9 temples are classified as "Divya Desams", the 108 temples of Vishnu revered by the 12 poet saints, or Alwars.

Greatness Of Temple:
The Vimana ? tower above the sanctum sanctorum ? is known as Srikara Vimana. As there are Navagraha (9 planets) sthalas ? places - in the Chola regions, these Nava Tirupathis in Pandya region is headed by Lord Perumal. Hence there are no separate Navagraha shrine in these temples. Devotees visit these temples according to their planetary situations and their effect on them. Lord Perumal represents the planets in these Nava Tirupathi temples.

Temple History:
Due to a curse by Mother Parvathi, Kubera lost all his wealth. The Nava Nidhis ? 9 kinds of wealth ? left him and they came to Lord Narayana ? Perumal. As Perumal was the custodian of the wealth (nidhi), He came to praised and named Vaitha Manidhi Perumal. He is granting darshan to devotees keeping these Nidhis under His right shoulder. Kubera worshipped this Perumal and got back the Nidhis, according to scriptures. Perumal is also known as Adharmapisunam.
