Kumbakonam

Kumbakonam is one of the oldest towns in Tamilnadu and is famous for its Mahamaham festival, Mahamaham festival  is celebrated once in 12 years in the Mahamaham tank located in the heart of itThe Kumbeswara Temple is one of the oldest and the largest temple located in Kumbakonam on the banks of river Kaveri. 

Kumbakonam is a busy, dusty commercial centre, nestled along the Cauvery River some 37 Kms northeast of Thanjavur. Dozens of temples are scattered around the town and this is a good base to visit the superb Chola temples nearby, or the Navagraha Temples located around Kumbakonam.
